FlySafair’s Strong Zero-Tolerance Policy on Indecent Behavior on Flights

FlySafair, a low-cost airline based in South Africa, has banned a couple from booking future flights with them after they were reported to have engaged in a sexual act aboard a flight from Gauteng to Durban. The incident was reported by a fellow passenger who claimed to have witnessed the woman putting her hands in her partner’s pants while the plane was waiting to take off. The man, who filmed the activity, alleged that he could not leave his seat for safety reasons, and the couple’s activity, which included kissing and giggling, continued while the aircraft took off.

The complainant informed the air hostess about the incident as soon as he could leave his seat, and he expected the police to get involved. FlySafair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kirby Gordon, said the company condemns lewd and indecent acts and has taken the action of banning the couple from any future flights with them. The company has also canceled any future bookings made by the couple and set their details on their systems to prevent them from making any future reservations.

FlySafair’s policy of banning the couple from their flights shows the company’s commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for their passengers. Passengers have the right to feel safe and secure when traveling on flights, and airlines have the responsibility to ensure their safety. This includes not only physical safety but also emotional and psychological safety. Sexual activity in public places is inappropriate and unacceptable, and it is a violation of other passengers’ privacy and personal space.

In a statement, Gordon said, “We reserve the right of admission on our flights, and we’ve taken the action of banning these individuals from any future flights with us. We’ve canceled any future bookings and set their details on our systems so that no future reservations will be accepted. People engaging in this kind of behavior in public can have charges laid against them, and FlySafair certainly does not condone this type of behavior.”

The Civil Aviation Act covers the commission of indecent acts in public, and convicted parties could be liable to a fine and/or imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months. If the complainant decides to open a case against the couple, FlySafair will support the charges with all required information. The complainant will have to go to the police station to open a case against the couple, and the police will have to request their personal information because their information is protected by the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) laws.

This incident is a reminder that passengers must follow specific guidelines when traveling on flights. Although it is common knowledge that engaging in sexual activity on flights is inappropriate and unacceptable, incidents like this one still happen. It is essential to follow airline policies and regulations to ensure that everyone has a safe and comfortable flight experience.

The incident also highlights the importance of personal privacy and respect for others’ personal space, even in public places. Passengers have the right to expect privacy and comfort when traveling on flights, and airlines have a responsibility to provide a safe and comfortable environment for their passengers. The incident has brought to light the need for stricter regulations and penalties for indecent behavior on flights.

In conclusion, FlySafair’s action of banning the couple from future flights shows their commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for their passengers. Indecent behavior on flights is unacceptable and can have severe consequences under the law. Passengers must follow airline policies and regulations, and airlines must provide a safe and comfortable environment for their passengers. The incident is a reminder of the importance of respecting personal privacy and personal space, even in public places, and highlights the need for stricter regulations and penalties for indecent behavior on flights.
